During the 2007 ICMCC event, Dr. Amir Hanan presented this excellent paper called: “Towards a “Partnership of Trust“”. Dr. Hannan, see here a guest article on the ICMCC Blog by Bettine Pluut, is strongly convinced of the benefits of EHRs and the patient’s access to it. You can find a whole series of Record Access videos produced by him on the ICMCC Record Access Portal.
His dedication to Patient Record Access is clearly shown in a presentation he made available on the website of his Medical Centre.
Most recently Dr. Hannan and his colleagues from Haughton Thornley Medical Centres invited GPs, nurses, social services, managers, nurses and senior carers from local nursing and residential homes, working with the local Asian community and some patients whose relatives suffer with dementia to come along and learn about local developments and an integrated approach on how they might improve the way they deliver services. The session was recorded. Very interesting is to see how the surgery uses EHRs to help monitor patients, but also to enable patients to have “guided access” to validated information (in this case the “Map of Medicine“) through their record.
Do have a look at how EHRs can enhance the work of a physician, the position of a patient and the relationship between both.
